Nevada Prevailing Wage Guide

Nevada's prevailing wage law (NRS Chapter 338) covers public works construction contracts and requires trade-specific minimum wages published by the Nevada Labor Commissioner. Unique to Nevada: the state's daily overtime threshold (NRS 608.018) also applies to workers on prevailing wage projects, meaning overtime may be owed after 8 hours in a day even before 40 hours for the week are reached.

Trade rates not shown here: Prevailing wage rates are published per trade and location by the Nevada Labor Commissioner. Always obtain the current wage determination from labor.nv.gov before beginning work.

Is your project covered?

Nevada's prevailing wage requirement under NRS Chapter 338 applies to public works construction contracts meeting the coverage threshold. Verify coverage for your specific project at labor.nv.gov/PrevailingWage/.

How to find the correct rate

  1. Identify the trade classification for each worker (carpenter, ironworker, electrician, laborer, etc.).
  2. Identify the project county and project type.
  3. Access the current wage schedule from the Nevada Labor Commissioner prevailing wage page.
  4. Confirm the schedule's effective date covers the period of work.

Overtime — daily AND weekly rules both apply

Nevada's prevailing wage overtime follows the standard formula — base rate × 1.5 plus fringe at straight time. However, workers on Nevada public works projects are also covered by NRS 608.018, which requires daily overtime (time and a half) after 8 hours in a day for workers whose total hourly rate including prevailing wage components is below $18.00/hr. The more protective rule governs: daily overtime may be owed before the weekly 40-hour threshold is reached.

Prevailing wage overtime formula

OT pay = (base rate × 1.5) + fringe rate Daily OT threshold (NRS 608.018): after 8 hours if effective rate < $18/hr Weekly OT threshold: after 40 hours regardless of daily rate
